Using Governance Documents to Guide & Lead

Bylaws are written when nonprofits are formed and often collect dust from there. Yet bylaws and companion policy documents can help guide your organization for strength and sustainability. This workshop, led by Tamela Spicer, is ideal for executive directors and board members to deepen their understand of how to develop and use bylaws and board policies to guide their organization.
Key concepts will include:
- Understanding why bylaws and policies are important to nonprofit organizations
- Learning what belongs in bylaws vs. policies
- Exploring how bylaws and policies can help develop and guide effective leadership

Tamela Spicer, M.A. is the program manager for nonprofit services at the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy at Grand Valley State University.
