Maris Brummel is a research fellow Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy’s Community Research Institute (CRI) at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She joined the Johnson Center in 2017 and is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing community-based research projects.
Prior to joining the Johnson Center, Brummel worked with Family Futures in Grand Rapids, a nonprofit organization promoting healthy child development, where she conducted research and developed professional training focused on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and brain development. She also served as a member of the Community Health Improvement Plan workgroup, a multidisciplinary team focused on violence prevention and creating a trauma-informed community.
Brummel holds a Master of Public Health degree in Epidemiology from Grand Valley State University. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science with an emphasis on health and economics from Michigan State University.
