A Virtual Lunch & Learn

Join us in this free, virtual event to learn about efforts to bring mental health crisis and suicide prevention support and services to the West Michigan community and how to access and navigate community resources for you and your employees.

This session will cover topics including:

  • A better understanding of how mental health and illness is a community conversation.
  • Training opportunities around mental health and suicide prevention to bring to your organization.
  • How to access and navigate resources.

Christy Buck is the executive director of the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan. With more than 36 years of experience in the mental health field, Buck’s passion for transforming and saving lives through mental health education led her to develop two classroom programs, ‘Live, Laugh, Love’ for middle and high school students, and ‘be nice.’ Since 2006, she and her staff have passionately presented to over 200,000 people in West Michigan on mental health awareness, bullying, and suicide prevention. Christy regularly delivers speaking engagements to community and business groups on mental health awareness. She is certified in Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) and Mental Health First Aid. She is a graduate of Michigan State University and a Licensed Social Worker.

Kasie Pickart is a Master of Public Health graduate from Grand Valley State University who is passionate about improving clinical outcomes and access to comprehensive behavioral health services. As the Zero Suicide Initiative project director at Hope Network, Kasie provides oversight for the Zero Suicide Model across Michigan to raise awareness and improve care and outcomes for individuals at risk for suicide, including system-wide staff training, screening, and referral processes. She is a member of the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of Grand Rapids as well as five suicide prevention coalitions across the state, including the Governor’s Commission on Suicide Prevention Reducing Access to Lethal Means Workgroup. Kasie has trained hundreds of people across the U.S. in the evidence-based Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) Gatekeeper Training for Suicide Prevention.
