The basics of the 990 presented in the first of a two-part series for beginning learners

This 90-minute workshop is designed to ground the philanthropic sector in the basics of the Form 990 — including the practical and the purposeful ways to leverage information from a 990 with a nonprofit, financial, or foundation lens.

During this two-part* course, we’ll cover the following:

  • Developing an understanding of Form 990 as an organizational tool and the information it communicates
  • How to analyze information in Form 990 with an equity lens
  • Understanding the power of 990 data as a tool for the philanthropic sector from the perspective of a nonprofit organization or a funder

 

Price: $60 (free for current GVSU students/staff/faculty)

Julie Couturier, CPA, is the director of operations for the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy at Grand Valley State University. Julie is responsible for all financial reporting, budgeting, and financial analysis for the Johnson Center. Jeff Williams, M.A., M.B.A., is the director of the Community Data and Research Lab (CDRL) at the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy at Grand Valley State University. In this role, he oversees a staff of researchers, database experts, and web developers who promote access to data and provide insights into nonprofit and philanthropic organizations and activities. He oversees the lab’s annual research agenda, supervises staff, and is a member of the Johnson Center’s leadership team. Learn more about Jeff.
