• Determine what philanthropic mission is meaningful to you — or how to find it.
• Identify functions of nonprofit boards and how to position yourself for board service.
• Identify key questions for vetting and joining a board.

Emily Brenner, M.P.A., is a program manager at the Johnson Center for Philanthropy. In this role, she assists the learning services team in providing professional development opportunities for the philanthropic sector. Emily’s primary responsibility is management of The Grantmaking School, where she handles the course calendar, works with current instructors and onboards new ones, and develops private and custom course offerings for clients. Mandy Sharp Eizinger, M.S., is a program manager at the Johnson Center for Philanthropy. In this role, she supports sector-wide learning and professional development programs.
