Melyssa Tsai O’Brien is a research manager for the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Mich. She joined the Johnson Center in 2014, and is responsible for managing community-based research and evaluation, specifically through project planning, data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Prior to working for the Johnson Center, she worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs Epidemiologic Research and Information Center in Seattle, Washington. She also worked on social epidemiology and community research projects at the Center for Social Epidemiology and Population Health in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Melyssa earned her master’s degree of public health in epidemiology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She also holds a bachelor’s degree of sociology from Occidental College in Los Angeles, California.
