Dr. Plouff began his appointment as Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs in January 2016 and then served as Senior Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. His portfolio of responsibilities include university-level leadership for strategic planning, assessment and accreditation. In his work in the Office of the Provost, he collaborates with faculty and staff to develop strategic and assessment plans with measurable objectives in order to accomplish aspirational programmatic/departmental and student learning outcomes. He serves as the university’s Accreditation Liaison Officer for the Higher Learning Commission, and assists units with programmatic accreditation.

Dr. Plouff earned his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Eastern Michigan and his M.S. and B.S. in Environmental and Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University. He is a licensed engineer in the State of Michigan. Dr. Plouff has been at Grand Valley State University since 1997, receiving tenure and promotion in 2014. Prior to 2016, he served as Interim Director of the School of Engineering for 1.5 years, Assistant Director of the School of Engineering for one year, Unit Head for the Product Design & Manufacturing Engineering program for 1.5 years, the James R. Sebastian Chair of Engineering Cooperative Education and Education Development for seven years, and Director of the university’s Career Center for four years.

Nationally, Dr. Plouff is a trained peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission. He is actively involved with the American Society for Engineering Education, and has served for three years on the board for the Cooperative & Experiential Education Division of the organization, presiding as board chair in 2016-17.
