Karen is available to help with questions related to the Johnson Center's print and digital publications, as well as Giving Tuesday campaign efforts.
Karen Hoekstra joined the Johnson Center in 2015 and currently serves as marketing and communications manager. In this role, she leads the Johnson Center’s marketing and visual communications efforts through brand management and design of print and digital publications, including reports, email newsletters, and The Foundation Review, the center’s peer-reviewed journal of philanthropy. She is also responsible for the management of the Johnson Center’s website and social media channels.
Previously, Karen served as a graphic and web designer for The Salvation Army, and communications director for the Home & Building Association of Greater Grand Rapids. Prior to her time in the nonprofit sector, Karen led the creative teams at both a small advertising agency and a local TV station, in addition to serving clients such as Mercy Health, the Saint Mary’s Foundation, and Holland Board of Public Works as a freelance designer. She studied visual communications at Kendall College of Art and Design.
